Born in Harlem, Shaakir was taught music in Albany, New York’s Public School System.
An Alumni of Berklee College of Music and Prairie View A&M University of Texas,
Shaakir has independently written / produced / performed / recorded /released a total of
fourteen (14) albums since ‘1999. His first “a dif’rent kinda SAX,” landed him national
recognition on the Jazz scene and a ten (10) year tour with the Armed Forces to include
the United States, Germany & Italy.
Shaakir: a child of God: " it's a new beginning," is just that... it is an
album from Shaakir that not only continues to highlight his versatility as a
Saxophonist / Producer / composer; but as an accomplished musician on various
instruments throughout the project as well.
The album contains 15 songs and over 75 minutes of uninterrupted Contemporary
Jazz /R&B Instrumental music for the Avid Listener. “It’s an album full of growth,
maturity and emotions,” Shaakir states. “It’s hard to describe and paint the picture, but
it’s based off of my adversity – especially the adversity of losing my mother and wife
to Cancer within the last few years...though I can say that it's not one of those
sad / misery albums; you'll always get me musically! That's why I truly enjoyed
writing /recording /producing and of course playing this album alone.
The titled track "it's a new beginning," kicks the album off with the late Michael Jackson's
“human nature" grabbing a spot as a remake. “Issues,” “Brotha - Man,"
"Life101 Groove," "just throw your hands " (in the air) and
"Inseparable/Trinity," (featuring Benson C. Spencer) are just a few more reasons why...
..."it's a new beginning."
"it's a new beginning" is a title that most of us can relate to.
It is by far the best from Shaakir yet! Hope you can relate to it...
